Hi there, I'm happy to be popular enough for you to be here looking up my information.
I am a son of the late Ken and Betty Custer of Somerset PA. My father, W3WGX (SK), was first licensed in 1934 as W8DMC and then in 1937 as W8WGX. After World War II his callsign changed to W3WGX, as western PA was changed over to the third call area.
I got my first ham license in 1984 (age 19), a novice with the callsign KA3MZF. I upgraded four times to my current Extra class. My real interest in radio is with repeaters - I have several throughout Pennsylvania.
Along with the elmering of my father Ken, I also went to the local Vocational-Technical School, for electronics of course. I took the test for First Class radiotelephone when I was 16 but I failed, however, I did pass the Second Class test the same day.
I am employed as Senior Engineer at WestPAnet, Inc., a technical Internet & communications company. http://www.westpa.net
I own Masters Communications where I offer commercial and amateur electronic items. http://www.masterscommunications.com
I also have a website to help others with building repeaters and answering technical questions. http://www.repeater-builder.com
With help from several others, I'm involved in the WAN Repeater System - an Amateur Internet connected (AllStar Link) repeater link system. http://www.w3wan.com
I became involved with AllStar Link in 2010, rolling out several nodes in the WAN Repeater System. I've been heavily involved with its financial support over the years. I'm currently an Executive Board member, and have been since the untimely passing of Jim Dixon WB6NIL the - founder of AllStar Link.
